Watching Ron throw pots

Today was a treat. Ron Philbeck was doing a demo for the Carolina ClayMatters Guild and I got to watch him throw pots. I realized that I really had never seen him throw pieces. We had done some collaborative moldmaking but that was dealing in plaster and making a cast of a bottle. You can see his work at his blogsite that is listed on the right under "Blogs I Like". Then I got to thinking about who else I had been able to see throw. So this is my list of friends that I have watched making their pots:
Jen Mecca, at Gaston College last fall
Ron, today
Adrienne Dellinger way long ago at a ClayMatters meeting
Bobbie Black (we go way back in clay at Gaston College)
Connie and Kaye (other friends from long ago at Gaston)
Keith Lambert--instructor
Doug Knots--instructor
Pam Brock doing handbuilding before she moved to 'Bama
and that's it, I think. I know a lot more potters but I haven't seen them work. You get to see the finished products but not the techniques they used to get to that stage. I have been to a lot of workshops and seen regional and national potters but that is different than the people you hang around with.
But on that note, I am looking forward to the NC Potters Conference in March. There are three great potters I am excited about seeing. It is always an excellent weekend with lots of new info and a ton of pots and the Gaston gang to have lots of laughs with!
