Cheeky Birds

One of the "wild life" that makes eating lunch full of adventure. There are also grey herons and seagulls and smaller white birds that are even more threatening than this big guy. They hover and swoop and land on your table, beadly eyeing your sandwich. I think they are the Florida version of NC bears that have been fed and become a real problem. Besides not knowing when they will streak out of the sky and nail your food, they also can wreak revenge by letting loose a shower of bird doo. Oh so appetizing.....But I have gotten some nice reference shots for carving work on pots.

Wow, I'm just moving to Florida and I haven't gotten that close to any birds yet, great close up shot. We might even be close to one another.

Wow that's a great shot. Beautiful bird for sure. When we were in St. Ives with Doug Fitch we had a very close encounter with a seagull. Doug bought an ice creme on a cone. He took one bite of it and held it away from his face, a huge gull swooped down and took the whole top of the cone, ice cream and all! Doug was left holding this little pointy bit of cone in his hand. It made a big snapping sound when the bird took it. I couldn't believe how quickly it happened. It was scary too. Talk about a problem!! So be careful with your ice cream, that long neck guy may reach over and grab it!

Hey Linda, I'm in the Tampa area right now. These guys are used to easy meals, guess all the tourists feed them.
I know what you mean Ron, about the snapping sound! I use a real cute "SHOO" and rapid arm waving technique. Just makes the birds look at you like you are the stupidest human specimen they've seen to date.

Thanks for your input on my photo's. I do have that camera and just figured out that botton that adjusts the light setting. It is sort of weird because on the camera, they don't look so dark but now I know to go lighter on that bar and hopefully I'll get the right setting.
So..are you coming home soon? The hen house is back on. It will be at Black's peaches next christmas complete with heyrides and BQ. Would love to have you..again!

(Great bird by the way.)
