Salt and Pepper Project

These are some finished salt and pepper shakers that I have been experimenting with. The project itself was inspired by an article in Pottery Making Illustrated from May/June 2010 by Keith Phillips.

They are the kind that don't have holes in the top, just a small funnel in the bottom. They were a lot of fun and I have been using the new Chartreuse glaze I've been developing in various combinations with my other glazes. Lots of fun.

These look great. I tried making them but the 1/8th inch hole that he recommended was too small after firing. Did you make it larger?

I used this little brass hole cutting tool that I have. It looks to be about 1/8". I poured regular salt to check them out and they seem to work fine. I was considered making larger holes for coarser grained salt like sea salt but haven't experimented yet. I tried making these shakers before and put in a 1/4" hole and that just dumped too much out, so I got discouraged until I tried this method.
