Stupa Jar

No, that's not "Stupid" jar, but stupa. This shape started to remind me of stupa structures in the near East. The black is a new thing I'm trying out from the Haynes Bayless workshop I went to. He got it from Ian Currie who I believe got it from Mick Cardew. It's called Gosu. Hope it doesn't bubble up or spray around in the kiln. The firing will reveal it's usefullness or uselessness....

You pots immediately made me think of an artist that we saw at the Baltimore ACC show this year, Candone Wharton. Her pieces were amazing. Here is a typical piece that she had at the show, you can scroll through for more.

I was so amazed that these intricate forms were raku fired. She said that she has a very low loss rate.
